“LETTERS FROM HERDING”: BOOK PRESENTATION

The presentation of the book “Lettere dalla pastorizia. Scritture di pastori transumanti di Fano Adriano”, by Berardino Nisii, Gianfranco Spitilli, Roberta Tucci, published by Bambun Editions/Don Nicola Jobbi Study Center in September 2024, will be held at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of ‘La Sapienza’ University of Rome, from 10 a.m., in collaboration with the School of Specialization in Beni Demoetnoantropologici.
The book is the result of a long research work begun in previous cycles of Tramontana, aimed at analysing the shepherds’ writings, the letters they wrote to their families when they were away from home during the long autumn, winter and spring months, from September to June. The nucleus of documents considered also includes family photographs and film footage shot inside the armentaria farm in the Roman Campagna, where the sheep and shepherds moved at the end of the summer.
In addition to the authors, the presentation will be attended by Director of Specialization in Beni Demoetnoantropologici at “La Sapienza” University of Rome Anna Iuso, with poetic and musical interventions of improvisation in ottava rima, triplets and “ciaramelle” (lame bagpipes) Pietro De Acutis, Giampiero Giamogante and Antonio Di Cintio.
The event is organised as part of the activities of the European project Tramontana Network.
