LEM Italia is the Italian branch of the LEM portal (“Languages of Europe and the Mediterranean”) and its activities are aimed at promoting linguistic, social and cultural diversity in Europe and the Mediterranean. As LEM-Italia is at the heart of an international network of humanities and social scientists, most of its members come from the world of research and academia. The organization is based at the University of Teramo, where since 2008 it has organized international conferences on linguistic rights and the development of minority language communities. It has just created a University Center for Studies on Linguistic and Cultural Diversity to involve a growing number of researchers and students.
