WATER SOUND TRAIL
Várzea de Calde, Viseu (Portugal)
Saturday, March 22, 2025, between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Water manifests itself in multiple forms in a village like Várzea de Calde, and water management reveals how communities knew and know how to make use of natural resources in an ingenious way, with an awareness, passed down from generation to generation, of the need for them not to be wasted.
In Várzea de Calde, all the manifestations of water are united by a network of infrastructures that allow this precious liquid to be directed, retained or accumulated for human, animal and agricultural consumption.
The water sound trail consists of a serene walk that allows attentive listening and sound recording of the multiple forms of water in Várzea de Calde, following a trail through fountains, washhouses, tanks, mills, streams and irrigation channels, in which various listening and sound recording techniques and technologies will be used, such as binaural, directional, cardioid, ambisonic and hydrophone microphones.
This activity is part of the activities of the Tramontana Network project, co-funded by the Creative Europe program, as well as the celebrations of World Water Day, celebrated on March 22nd. This event is a global initiative supported by the United Nations to highlight the importance of fresh water for our planet and the need to combat its scarcity around the world, given that around 2.2 billion people still lack access to drinking water.
